MEGUMI CALVER

Marketing Strategist. Sommelier. Founder.

Building at the intersection of
strategy and storytelling.

As Seen On

I build and support work that is thoughtful,
well-positioned, and built to connect.

My career has taken me across agencies, startups, nonprofits, entertainment, hospitality, and wine — but the through-line has always been the same: helping people and brands communicate more clearly, show up more intentionally, and create work that resonates.

That takes shape today through two ventures: Media Kamo and Merobebe.

A wine platform built around education, conversation, and elevating women through thoughtful content, curated experiences, and real community.

Whether through wine education, storytelling, or events, Merobebe is where wine becomes approachable with style, community, and zero snobbery.

Strategic marketing for founder-led companies, public-facing experts, and food/beverage/hospitality brands.

I work with clients who have strong work but unclear positioning, or who know their marketing could be doing more — and need a strategic partner to make that happen. Services include messaging strategy, thought leadership and ghostwriting, launch campaigns, and full marketing direction.

Why People Work With Me

I'm often brought in when something important is on the line.

A brand that's grown beyond its original positioning. A launch that needs to actually land. A message that's not doing justice to the work behind it. A founder who's the face of the business but doesn't have the time (or the strategic support) to show up the way they want to.

What my clients consistently say is that I bring both the big-picture thinking and the detail-oriented execution, and that I make complex projects feel manageable without making them feel small.

A few things I've helped with:

  • Helping a speaker collective secure 23 engagements and generate $100K+ in revenue

  • Launching a first book to Amazon bestseller status

  • Securing $800K in pre-seed funding through pitch deck and investor support

I bring the same standard to every engagement: thoughtful, intentional work that connects to real goals.

The Longer Version

I grew up in Tokyo as a nationally competitive figure skater and a voice actor for NHK's animated children's programming. I moved to the US, graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, and studied psycholinguistics and media business at NYU.

What followed was a career that doesn't fit neatly into one lane, and I've made peace with that, because the through-line was always there:
I'm interested in how people connect, how stories land, and what it takes to make an audience feel something.

I'm a WSET Level 3 sommelier with distinction and Certified Sake Professional quoted in Wine Enthusiast, Forbes, Delish, Real Simple, Chowhound, and Food Republic. I'm a marketer who has worked with everyone from fintech startups to nonprofit founders to TED speakers. I'm the founder of two ventures I care deeply about.

Ideally, with a glass of something red in hand!
